Why you have to put your money where your tweet is for Max Coates

Why you have to put your money where your tweet is for Max Coates

Your support has been fabulous but if you haven’t already, please join YourRacingCar.com.

Wowzers. What a day Friday was! We had a huge (and very positive) response to the news that we’ll be supporting Max Coates for the 2012 season. There are lots of new people talking about YRC who haven’t heard of us before so that’s all good news.

I thought I’d take the opportunity to shed a bit of light on how YRC works and try to encourage those of you who’ve been supportive in your tweets, to put your hands in your pocket for Max this year. It’s just £30 for an adult membership (click to join!).

YRCers check out the roof

YRC started in 2009 with the hope of funding a race car driver who otherwise wouldn’t be on the grid. In 2009, we fully funded (including all expenses) a Ginetta G50 entry, driven by Fulvio Mussi. Don’t ask me how we managed it – it was a huge effort from all our friends, family and some very generous partners. A big part of that effort came from YourRacingCar.com members who paid a seasonal subscription to see their picture on the car and get a handful of perks. They started the ball rolling with what you see today as YRC.

It might look like we’ve grown a bit since then with the YRC Domes at the track and a BTCC entry in 2010 and 2011 and we have – we’re recruiting new people and that’s amazing. However, every membership is more valuable to us now than it ever has been – we’ve put the total price of membership up by just £2.05 since 2009 and now you get free hot drinks at the British Touring Car Championship (all supported by volunteers), better discounts on BTCC tickets and more ways to be part of the YRC community.

Your memberships this year will make a huge difference to Max’s racing. Like almost every driver out there, Max hasn’t got the full budget he needs to race competitively this year and times are really tight on the sponsorship front. So, every single membership we can get directly helps Max. I can’t stress how valuable your contributions are.

If you like what we do (or even if you don’t and you just want cheap BTCC tickets and free drinks!), please help by putting your ‘tweets’ and ‘likes’ into action and buy a YRC membership.

Perks that pay for membership

You can see all the perks here but let me summarize:

  • Massive BTCC discount on Thruxton and Croft tickets
  • FREE tea, coffee and hot chocolate trackside
  • Your picture on Max’s race car
  • Loads of real insights into racing – no PR rubbish – the true story

And… a load of other stuff including competitions and more discounts throughout the year.

  1. Max is a great match for YRC. He started with a big orange handcut “MAX” on his Ginetta Junior and not much else. He impressed on track and off and slowly the number of stickers on his car increased. Even the BTCC Barmy Army started to notice and cheer him along and they know their racing!

With the right backing and enthusiasm around him he has the potential to stand out from the pack.

YRC’s story is the same. I’ve been a member since the start and whilst there have been ups and downs the discounts, perks, the cameraderie, the inside story and the feeling of belonging have always been there.

It does stand out from the pack because it makes a day at the races so much more involving and informative and the whole years package is the cost of one average BTCC meeting. Other fan funded ideas have come and gone but this is the original and best by miles so please dip your hands into your pockets.

  3. The paddock would just not be the same without Max Coates – the damage to the car last year at Silverstone was clearly a bitter blow to the whole team and put 2012 in jeopardy, it’s brilliant news that he’s got the support of YRC and can look positively toward the new season.

Good luck Max, good luck Hannah/YRC, we’ll see you soon. :-)
