YRC Gets PitFit

YRC Gets PitFit

PitFit is YRC’s take on fighting the winter blues and getting those parts of our bodies that only motor racing circuits access, back in shape. Any day out at the racing circuit, whether you’re working or coming along for a jolly (or both!) has physical consequences. Whether it’s a blister, windburn, sunburn (ha!) or a stiff backside, you’ll always feel it the next day. Call it a take home souvenir!

Here we go…

It’s important to note that this is in no way a carefully thought out fitness programme and just what we’re doing as motivation for ourselves (YRC Crew and friends) to start thinking about banishing the ‘off-season blues’! i.e. if you hurt yourself, it’s not our fault!

Day one (4th Jan)

Obviously this was supposed to be 1st January but we were busy and besides which, we had to wait for the New Year to start properly!

The first round of the BTCC this season is at Brands Hatch on the Indy layout. It’s 1.22 miles so our first PitFit exercise is to do 122 squats! YUP! 122!

Here’s a picture. As were’ not professional fitness instructors, you’d better look it up in the internet if you’re in any doubt. YouTube has loads of videos.

The inspiration

There is nothing on earth that gets your glutes going than putting slickers on the walls of the YRC dome. Last season, Friday set up has included getting 1.5m wide decals carefully positioned on the walls and doors of the dome. It often results in a embarrassing jaunty swagger for the rest of the weekend. Nobody knows why it has this affect but it does. Not any more because we’re doing 122 squats every day between now and Brands Hatch. Ouch.

  1. when you get too good with those then try it with a swiss ball behind your back or holding weights
